The Use of Force Will not End Biafra Agitation, Ex-Gov Obi Tells President Buhari

By Chidiebube Okeoma

A former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, has condemned the use of force on those agitating for a sovereign state of Biafra by the federal government.

Obi, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday after a close door with  the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, at the government House, Owerri, said that the continued incarceration of the Biafra activists was rather worsening the whole situation.

The former governor said "The Federal Government should rather than apply force engage the players in dialogue as a means of finding a lasting solution to the problem , especially the issue of Biafra.

" I have warned against the use of force against Biafra agitators, the Federal Government should be open to continued dialogue, which is what
we are supporting.

That is why I am here today to thank governor Rochas Okorocha for his efforts in managing the Biafra challenge in the recent time”, he said

Obi said that the Igbo people were not happy with the forceful approach the federal government had adopted in clamping down on the separatist group, saying , “Our people won’t support the use of force against those agitating for Biafra, it is a very delicate matter that must be treated with caution.

"As a matter of fact, the FG should release all Biafra activists that are currently in detention to begin the process of meaningful dialogue” He concluded

Obi, who denied that he was in Imo State to perfect his plane to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress, said "I am a member of the People’s Democratic Party and I am not dumping the party for any other party. I am not joining the APC, I am here on a private visit that is all, nothing more”.
